  2. Thank you so much to both Texas Citizen Soldier and "Wifey". I am considering enlisting in the very near future and this blog has been a great resource outside of the limited bright and shiny Army website. One of my unanswered questions was addressed in your blog: what is the role of one's faith as a Christian while in BCT. It sounds like it's a rather invaluable asset rather than an obstacle. Please feel free to elaborate on this aspect if you have the time in the near future.

God bless you and your family as you continue your service!

  3. My faith is an inseparable part of who I am. Serving as a soldier and being a Christian are not mutually exclusive- like you already said, my faith was an invaluable asset to me during my training. Not only did the Lord give me the strength I needed to make it through basic, but I was able to encourage other soldiers around me. Soldier's need Jesus just as much as civilians do- and many of my battle buddies needed to hear that message for the first time. Some of the harder parts of living as a Christian at basic were the lack of quality chaplains- either that or the Army made them water down their message so much it was almost worthless, lack of time to read scripture (I learned that all the time we spent standing around was generally my best bet to spend time praying and thinking about Scripture), and the environment of the Army in general isn't one that's conducive to growing in your faith- so if you're not committed it could be a very trying time for what you believe. But then- that's just what all struggles in life make us do- either fall away from God or give us reason to draw closer to him. I hope this helps as you decide what to do- pray about it, talk with people that know you/know the military, and do what you feel led to do!
